This happens when the central slip of the extensor mechanism in the finger tears. It can lead to a fixed flexion deformity, which is characterized by an inability to completely straighten the finger. This condition also increases the risk of developing a deformity known as a boutonniere.
This occurs when the joint in the finger is hyperextended (bent backwards) causing the volar plate ligament to tear. It's important to seek treatment right away as Volar Plate Injury can cause significant mobility issues and require surgical intervention if not addressed in a timely manner.
Mallet Finger is caused by the rupture of the extensor tendon and will prevent the finger tip from straightening. It may cause pain, numbness or lack of movement in the affected area. In more serious cases, mallet finger can lead to permanent joint damage if left untreated.
